Properly categorizing your transactions is crucial for accurate tax reporting and portfolio tracking. 1. What will happen if I leave some transactions uncategorized?

Leaving transactions uncategorized can lead to inaccurate balances and cost bases, missing purchase history, and zero-cost buys. This may cause your gains to be overstated and result in incorrect tax reports.

2. What happens if I assign a transaction to the wrong category?

Assigning a transaction to the incorrect category can lead to inaccurate portfolio balances and tax reports. Each category has different implications—some affect your overall balance, while others do not. Additionally, some transactions are taxable, and others are not. Similar to uncategorized transactions, it can result in missing purchase history and zero-cost buys.

3. How can I identify uncategorized transactions?

To identify uncategorized transactions:

  • On the Transactions page, filter for 'warnings: requires categorization'. This is available on free and paid plans.

  • If you are on a paid plan, go to the 'Review' page. The 'Categorize transactions' section will highlight transactions that require manual categorization.

4. Does the transaction categorization affect my portfolio?

Yes, categorization directly affects your portfolio. Properly categorized transactions ensure that your balances, cost basis, and unrealized gains are calculated correctly. Incorrect categories can lead to inaccurate portfolio calculations.
