Missing Blockchain warnings are simple to fix and help keep your wallet balances and reports accurate. They appear when Crypto Tax Calculator (CTC) doesn’t know which blockchain a transaction belongs to.
Why It Matters
Leaving transactions without a blockchain can cause issues in your reports:
Risk | Outcome |
Incorrect balances | Wallet balances may not reconcile correctly. |
Inaccurate tax reports | Reports may show inaccurate or misleading data. |
You’ll keep your reports as accurate as possible by resolving the Missing Blockchain warnings.
Why You’re Seeing This Warning
These are the most common reasons a Missing Blockchain warning may appear:
Cause | Explanation |
Exchange withdrawals | Many exchanges let you withdraw assets on different blockchains (to save fees), but they sometimes do not specify which chain was actually used. |
CSV imports | Your imported files are missing blockchain details, so CTC cannot automatically assign the correct chain. |
Same wallet on multiple blockchains | If you have a wallet uploaded to CTC across multiple blockchains, this can make it difficult for the platform to recognize which blockchain to assign to the withdrawal wallet. |
Manual edits | If you manually removed blockchain from a transaction, it will show as missing until you reassign it. |
How to Fix the Warning
Notes:
You can only assign blockchains supported by CTC. If the chain you need isn’t supported, it will not appear as an option.
The available blockchains come from wallets you’ve already imported. If the correct chain isn’t listed, ensure you’ve synced your wallet for that chain first.
You can resolve Missing Blockchain warnings in two places:
Option 1: Review Page (Paid plans only)
Go to the Review page > Resolve missing blockchains section.
Click Assign blockchain and choose the blockchain.
Option 2: Transactions Page (Free and Paid plans)
Go to the Transactions page.
Use the filter: Warning → Missing Blockchain.
Hover over the yellow dot to see the Missing Blockchain.
Click the Assign blockchain button.
Choose and assign the blockchain.
How to Bulk Ignore Warnings
We highly recommend resolving Missing Blockchain warnings whenever possible.
However, if the blockchain you need is not currently supported and you want these warnings removed from your Review page, you can ignore them.
💡 Tip: Before ignoring the warning, you can also use the Add Comment feature to leave a note explaining why you ignored the warning or any other note you want to reference. Later, you can filter by this comment to revisit the transactions and assign a blockchain once it becomes supported.
To bulk ignore missing blockchain warnings:
Go to the Transactions page → filter for ‘Warning: Missing Blockchain’ (add extra filters if needed).
Bulk-select the transactions.
Click the Command button at the bottom.
Select Ignore warnings.
Choose Missing Blockchain and Confirm.
For more details on bulk editing, please check the How to Bulk Edit Transactions guide.
